Dear friend,
When societal lies begin to unravel, we can begin to see how the only real truth to hang on to and to believe in is our faith and our Torah values, which have endured for over three thousand years.
The idea that “Judaism should change and adapt to modern times” is very thought provoking, especially while modernity and progress implodes all around us.
But how do we define modernity and progress? Is it fair to say that the world is progressing and Judaism is stuck?
Real, actual progress is when people get stronger, smarter, better, healthier, kinder, and more loving, caring and devoted to each other, to family, community and country. As people progress, so does the society they live in.
So has society progressed in the past, say thirty years?
Have we become better people? Have our technological advances made us to be more loving, or thoughtful of each other? Has it brought family and community closer together? Has it made people more honest and respectful?
Judaism adapts to a changing world by never compromising on its essence and values. Which means that the more the world spirals into chaos, real authentic, unchanged Judaism becomes even more relevant because it stands out as a beacon of truth, that yet again seems to be the only reliable thing to hold onto and to pass on to our children.
Friends, hold onto the truth, give it, teach it, and role model it. It's the only thing worth passing to our children.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Mendel & Elke Zaltzman
