As you already know, state regulations and guidelines forced us to suspend regular camp for the 2020 season, as we could not have trips and go swimming, and many other primary aspects of our program could not be done at all due to the covid regulations.
Still, we wanted to give our families something to hold onto the FLJDC spirit this summer, so we created JewishMiniCamps for this unique summer.
We put together a schedule, published a calendar, and planned appropriate and safe camp activities, as well as safety measures and guidelines.
We went through the recently finalized guidelines from the CDC, State of NJ, and the ACA, consulted with our legal camp expert and based on all the information, we have been able to properly consider all risks that children, camp, parents and staff will need to take, and the necessary waivers parents will need to agree to, both health wise and financial.
Based on all this we have finalized what camp will look like in the big picture, and have determined that the level of actually known, new, and unknown risks involved for the current season, is unreasonable to ask parents to commit to, and make it impossible to properly and completely plan to provide a safe and successful program for our children and staff.
We know you need to plan for the summer as best as you can, and we have worked to get this information to you asap. The final decision to not open JewishMiniCamps for 2020 came Thursday morning, June 18.
Judaism teaches us that challenges should be used as a learning opportunity. We can say with confidence that the great effort put into trying to have camp, can still be a great teachable moment for our children, of hard work and creativity in the face of obstacles. Please use this opportunity to speak to your children about the importance of trying hard in life and making the best of every situation, even if it doesn't go the way you planned. It's the journey that counts, oftentimes much more than the destination.
